91 US metro areas that fall entirely inside a single USDA hardiness zone. Each page gives that zone, the spread of freeze dates across every NOAA station serving the metro, and the tools to work out your own dates.
What this list is, and is not
Only 91 of 388 metro areas are here. The other 297 span more than one hardiness zone — Los Angeles and Riverside span 8 each — and a page telling everyone in a metro that their zone is one number would be wrong for most of them. Those may get a page later, written differently.
Metro areas also do not cover the country. Only 45% of US ZIP codes fall inside one at all; the rest are in smaller towns and rural counties.
So these pages reach a small slice, and it is worth being exact about which. Single-zone metros are mostly the smaller ones — the big metros sprawl across zones and are not here — so these 91 pages cover 1,758 ZIP codes, about 4.3% of the country, not the 45% above. The hardiness-zone tool answers all 40,502 US ZIP codes, whether they are in a metro or not, and it is the right starting point if your own is not listed here.
